The scheme will help train activpayroll’s UK payroll team of 25 staff and provide them with “invaluable qualifications”.

CIPP chief executive Lindsay Melvin said it would train the “payroll stars of tomorrow”.

Aberdeen Football Club vice- chairman George Yule and Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce finance director Gordon Prentice were among those attending the official launch yesterday to show their support for skills training in the region.

The event coincided with Scottish Apprenticeship week, which is highlighting the benefits that investment in training can bring to businesses, individuals and the economy.

Activpayroll chief executive Alison Sellar said: “We’ve worked really hard over the last 13 years to grow activpayroll to be a recognised global brand. We want to ensure the development of our staff by creating an in-house payroll academy.”

Allan Isdale, who heads up CIPP in Scotland, added: “We’re delighted to be involved in helping to play a crucial part in raising awareness about the payroll industry and helping to broaden its appeal to new people.”
