Cameron Motor Group suffers £16m drop in sales as lockdown takes hold

Perth-based Cameron Motor Group has recorded a drop in sales worth over £16 million in the last financial year, as the impact of the coronavirus pandemic took its toll on the firm’s finances.

Annual results filed with Companies House have revealed that the firm’s turnover in the year to the end of May 2020 dropped to £73.74m compared to £90m in the previous year.

Pre-tax profits also fell to £1.62m compared to £1.8m in 2019.

The firm has three operations, Strathmore Motors for Volvo, Cameron Motors (Perth) for Volkswagen and Perth Audi.

In a strategic report accompanying the results, Douglas Cameron, the group’s chairman, said COVID-19 had inevitably impacted the turnover and operating profits of each dealership in the final quarter of the last financial year.

He said that the directors took appropriate measures to mitigate the effects of the pandemic, thereby reducing its impact as much as possible on the results for the year.

The Volvo operation’s sales were also down by £3.77m to £18.13m, Volkswagen dropped by £6.53m to £19.59m and Audi fell by £5.96m to £36.01m.

The number of staff at Cameron during the year averaged 170, which was 16 less than the previous 12 months.
