Hampden & Co has hired Allison McCowan from C. Hoare & Co, the oldest private bank in the UK.

Ms McCowan specialises in providing lending solutions to private clients, a growth area at Hampden & Co. C.Hoare & Co was among the shortlisted banks, that also included Rothschild & Co, Weatherbys Bank and HSBC Private Bank, that Hampden & Co beat to land “Best UK Private Bank” at last night’s prestigious Spear’s Wealth Management awards at the Dorchester Hotel in London.

Graeme Hartop, Hampden & Co’s CEO, said: “Hampden & Co provides a traditional and personal banking service and Allison greatly strengthens our client offering. In terms of last night’s award, it is hugely satisfying that our achievements to date have been recognised ahead of the established order in the UK private banking sector and is testament to the hard work and focus on client service across our whole team.”.

Allison McCowan, banking director at Hampden & Co, said: “Hampden & Co has built a reputation for first class delivery of banking services and I am excited to be joining the team as it enters its next phase of growth. A focus on pure personal service is increasingly hard to find in the market today and the fact that Hampden & Co is looking to reclaim what many private banks have lost attracted me to the position.”

Mark Prentice, head of banking for Hampden & Co in Scotland, said: “We have been growing our presence in Scotland over the last few years and to have a banker of Allison’s calibre join the fold is great news for the team and our client base. Many of our clients seek to borrow money in unusual circumstances, so having someone who has the creativity and experience in these situations means that we can step up our activity in this space.”

Last month, Hampden & Co hired Duncan Buchanan from Lloyds Banking Group as a Banking Director as the UK’s newest private bank reported lending growth across Scotland and the rest of the UK.

Hampden & Co became the first UK private bank to be established in a quarter of a century when it opened for business in June 2015.

Headquartered on Edinburgh’s Charlotte Square and with a London office in Mayfair, offering a full suite of banking services which they tailor to the needs of individual clients.
