And finally… independence day

And finally... independence day

A copy of the 1776 American Declaration of Independence has sold for £3,210,000 after being found in the attic of a Scottish ancestral home.

The copy, made by an original signer of the historic declaration which led to the formation of the United States, is one of only six known still to be in private hands.

The document was discovered by the Edinburgh-based auction house Lyon & Turnbull after one of its specialists was asked to assess some books and papers, The Times reports.

The price achieved in Thursday’s sale is the second-highest ever paid at auction for any copy of the Declaration and the highest for an American document printed in the 19th century.
