And finally... nuns on the run

Two nuns who embezzled nearly £400,000 from a Catholic school to gamble in Las Vegas have apologised for their actions.

Sisters Mary Kreuper and Lana Chang admitted taking the cash from an account holding tuition fees and donations for St James’ Catholic School to spend in casinos.

However, St James’ Catholic Church, which is near Los Angeles, said it would not seek to have the pair prosecuted.

In a statement, the Sisters of St Joseph of Carondelet said: “The Sisters have confirmed the misappropriation of funds and have co-operated in the investigation.

“Our community is concerned and saddened by this situation and regret any injury to our long relationship with the families of the school.”

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles said the church discovered that the money was missing during a routine audit.
