18-hole Spey Bay golf course goes on sale

The 18-hole links style Spey Bay golf course has been brought to market by joint agents Shepherd Chartered Surveyors and Strutt & Parker for an asking price of £750,000.

The golf course, with club house premises, a former driving range building and a camping/caravan site, is located on a part of the Moray coastline at the mouth of the River Spey with easy access to Aberdeen, Inverness and onwards to centres in the south.

Designed by the legendary Ben Sayers, Spey Bay Golf Course was opened in 1907. The late Prime Minister Ramsay Macdonald was a member at Spey Bay and the magnificent club championship trophy which remains at the club, was presented by him.

Spey Bay is located five miles north of Fochabers on the coast of the Moray Firth and on the eastern side to the mouth of the River Spey. It is home to a coastal reserve which includes Scotland’s largest shingle beach and the Scottish Dolphin Centre.

The golf course is located within the village, off the B9014.

Neil Calder, partner in the Inverness office of Shepherd Chartered Surveyors, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to own a true links golf course in a stunning location. There are various avenues that new owners could explore to enhance the existing business including development potential, subject to appropriate planning consents.”

Euan MacCrimmon, senior associate director at Strutt & Parker, added: “There is a modern club house, which is licensed, and the campsite provides 30 plots made up of hardstanding pitches comprising 14 residential pitches and 16 towing pitches. The site caters to caravans, motorhomes, and tents with attractive coastal views.

“The campsite is currently licensed from April to October, however, there is scope to trade all year round and space to increase capacity.”
