ACCA appoints Maggie McGhee to its executive team

Maggie McGhee has been appointed executive director - governance at ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), taking up her position on ACCA’s executive team on Monday 1 October.

The appointment has been made due to the early retirement of Peter Large, who has been executive director - governance since 2008 and who will leave ACCA at the end of September 2018.

Ms McGhee is currently the director - professional insights and joined the global body for professional accountants in 2016. Additionally, she has been covering as interim director – brand and corporate reputation since May 2018.



Helen Brand OBE, ACCA’s chief executive, said: “In just two years as our director - professional insights, Maggie has significantly contributed to ACCA’s leadership of the profession. She’s successfully directed a team of talented subject experts, publishing a wide range of engaging research from the impact of the global economy to social mobility to tax policy, as well as focusing ACCA’s public affairs activities around the world.

“Maggie brings a wealth of experience to this role. She has a deep understanding of the profession and the need for it to deliver public value.

“I take this opportunity to welcome her to the executive team and to also offer ACCA’s best wishes to Peter for his upcoming retirement; I thank him personally for his considerable achievements here at ACCA over the years.”

Ms McGhee added: “I look forward to my new role on ACCA’s executive team. This is a pivotal time for the accountancy profession. Trust and quality in financial reporting, audit, corporate governance, and investor stewardship are essential. These are critical to the functioning of financial markets, the global economy and to public confidence.

“Our reputation rests on that of our members. This is especially true of practising members who provide professional services to the public, including accounting, auditing, investment business and insolvency services. I look forward to our work in supporting our 208,000 members globally.”

Maggie is a chartered accountant with a degree in law. Prior to joining ACCA in 2016, she was director general, audit quality at the UK’s National Audit Office.
