Acumen Financial Planning has announced the acquisition of Duckworth Alexander in a move the firm said will develop its business in the Scottish capital.

Acumen, which now employs 30 staff over five sites across the UK, has had an office in Edinburgh for 11 years and serves clients, predominately within the medical, education and professional sectors, with advice on retirement planning, tax planning, savings & investments.

As part of the takeover deal, Iain Duckworth, a Chartered Financial Planner and financial planner with 34 years’ experience, joins the Acumen team and will now be based at their Edinburgh office in Torphichen Street.

He said: “It was important to me that when I came to hand on the baton I could do so to a firm who shared the same values in relation to clients. Acumen Financial Planning have the same values and taken together with a similar investment philosophy gives me confidence that my clients are in safe hands.”

Acumen director David Gow, said: “Financial planning has and always will be the number one objective for both Acumen Financial Planning and Duckworth Alexander. With very similar investment philosophies and attention to detail it only seems natural that a coming together of the companies will allow existing clients to continue receiving outstanding service and for new clients to experience excellent financial planning for the first time.”
