And finally… cold Turkey
Uganda’s chief of defence forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, son of President Yoweri Museveni, has issued a striking ultimatum to Turkey via social media, demanding $1 billion and “the most beautiful woman in that country” as his wife.
The posts, published on X on 11 April 2026, gave Ankara a 30-day deadline to comply or face the closure of its embassy in Kampala and a complete severing of diplomatic ties.
General Muhoozi framed the financial demand as a long-overdue “security dividend” owed to Uganda for nearly two decades of military service in Somalia. Ugandan troops have operated under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia since 2007, sustaining hundreds of fatalities in combat against Al-Shabaab militants, with troop contributions at times exceeding 6,000 personnel, Times of Islamabad reports.
The general’s argument is that Turkey profited handsomely from the stability Ugandan forces helped create, gaining control of Mogadishu’s port and airport through infrastructure projects estimated to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars, without bearing a proportionate share of the security burden.
The general was notably unbothered by the prospect of reciprocal action, stating that Uganda would have no objection to the closure of its own embassy in Ankara should Turkey choose to retaliate. The $1bn demand equates to approximately 3.8 trillion Ugandan shillings.
