And finally... domino effect

The last Domino’s locations in Italy have now been closed after the country’s franchise operator ePizza SpA filed for bankruptcy.

The firm operating the brand’s Italian operations was forced into insolvency after being unable to recover from the effects of the pandemic. The company initially filed for bankruptcy in April , the BBC reports.

A company spokesperson said: “The Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent and prolonged restrictions from a financial point of view have seriously damaged ePizza.”

The pizza chain struggled to grow in popularity since opening in the country back in 2015. It sought to win over customers by offering comprehensive home delivery and focusing on American style pizza toppings like pineapple. However, with the rise of delivery services such as JustEat and Deliveroo, the competition proved tough.

News of Domino’s departure from the country was positively received by some social media users. One user said: “Trying to open Dominos Pizza in Italy is like trying to sell snow in the North Pole.”
