A British auctioneer has been charged with the fraudulent sale of the Eid Mar coin, which is the world’s most expensive coin which was minted to mark the killing of Julius Ceasar.

Richard Beale, who is the owner and managing director of London-based auction house Roma Numismatics, was arrested on suspicion of falsifying the ownership documents of the coin to make it worth more money.

He has been charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. He faces up to 25 years in prison if found guilty, The Mirror reports.

The coin was created in 44BC, and is one of the remaining three in existence which was created to commemorate the murder of the Roman leader.
