Aviation authorities have asked police to investigate reports from two pilots who claim to have spotted a man in a jetpack above Los Angeles.
The bizarre saga began when a pilot approaching Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Sunday night told the control tower that he “just passed a guy in a jetpack”, FOX 11 reports.
The mysterious jetpack man was allegedly within 275 metres of the American Airlines flight, around 3,000 feet over the city and 10 miles from landing.
A second pilot, believed to be a SkyWest Airlines pilot, corroborated the report, though a third JetBlue flight did not see anything unusual.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which is responsible for civil aviation in the US, told reporters that it had referred the matter to the LAPD, though the LAPD said it was unaware of any report.
