And finally... gem of a result

A distinctive Arts and Crafts bracelet by renowned Scottish jeweller Sibyl Dunlop (1889–1968) has sold for more than triple its £8,000 estimate at auction.

The piece was purchased by an unnamed collector via a phone bid during Woolley & Wallis auctioneers’ fine jewellery sale on Wednesday.

Crafted in the 1930s, the silver-mounted bracelet exemplifies Dunlop’s signature ‘carpet of gems’ style. It features oval cabochon opals framed in black enamel, alternating with geometric bands containing opal, amethyst, and blue, green, and yellow chalcedony. The reverse bears a foliate engraving and Dunlop’s signature, STV reports.

Marielle Whiting, jewellery specialist at Woolley & Wallis, described it as a “fine example” of Dunlop’s work, adding that the significant price achieved “reflects the appreciation of Dunlop’s craftsmanship.”
