And finally... good optics

A small Italian eyewear firm, iVision Tech, has experienced a dramatic surge in value following an inadvertent endorsement from French President Emmanuel Macron.

Shares in the Milan-based company rose by 65% last week after Mr Macron was photographed wearing their aviator-style sunglasses during the World Economic Forum in Davos. Throughout the high-profile event, the President sported the Pacific S 01 model from Maison Henry Jullien, a French heritage brand owned by iVision Tech.

Macron reportedly adopted the eyewear, which retails for €659 (c. £571), to conceal a benign broken blood vessel in his eye. Despite the medical necessity, the fashion choice sparked an immediate commercial frenzy. The company reported that their online store struggled to cope with an “exceptional volume” of enquiries, necessitating the creation of a temporary landing page specifically to manage orders for the President’s preferred model.

Speaking to Reuters, iVision Tech CEO Stefano Fulchir acknowledged that the visibility generated a significant “wow effect” on the stock. The look even caught the attention of President Donald Trump, who interrupted his own Davos address to remark on the “beautiful sunglasses” while wondering aloud about the nature of Macron’s injury.
