And finally... goop there it is

Nearly 300 personal items belonging to Gwyneth Paltrow are set to go under the hammer at Julien’s auction house in Los Angeles next week, in a sale that ranges from the glamorous to the gloriously mundane.

Prompted by a fire at a storage facility and a house move, the auction sits within a larger event entitled Bold Luxury, though some lots feel closer in spirit to a garage sale, which is what Ms Paltrow told Vogue she had hoped for.

Estimates start at around $50 for personalised stationery, while a customised sunhat, costume jewellery, Goop G Label pieces, and an old copy of Cosmopolitan sit alongside higher-profile lots. At the time of writing, a Dolce & Gabbana “Material Girl” T-shirt from 2001 has attracted bids of up to $800, and Ms Paltrow’s “mom” necklace has reached $700.

Two photographs of her ex-husband Chris Martin and his band Coldplay have drawn a $100 bid, with further offers expected ahead of Tuesday’s close.

There are items that speak more firmly to the life of an A-lister: an Atelier Versace gown worn to the Country Music Awards in 2010, a 1999 Christian Dior design by John Galliano, and a grey Gianni Versace two-piece from the same year, which Ms Paltrow wore to the White House.

Julien’s co-founder Martin Nolan is keen to stress the sale’s democratic spirit. “It was very important to her that this not appear an elitist type of auction,” he said, adding that Ms Paltrow’s new mantra is straightforward: if something new comes in, something old must go.
