A 50p coin featuring the Beatrix Potter character Flopsy Bunny is selling for more than 15 times its face value, prompting collectors and the public to check their loose change.

One of the coins, listed by a seller from Abingdon, recently fetched £7.53 on eBay. Released by the Royal Mint in 2018, this was the first time Flopsy Bunny, the sister of Peter Rabbit, had appeared on a UK coin, Oxford Mail reports.

The coin is part of a popular series celebrating the characters from Beatrix Potter’s books. The Royal Mint describes the design as placing Flopsy Bunny “centre stage, with her characteristic little cape highlighted by the coin’s Brilliant Uncirculated finish”.

While the coin is no longer available directly from the Royal Mint, where it was originally listed for £10 as a collector’s item, it is sought-after online. Other characters in the valuable collection include Peter Rabbit, Benjamin Bunny, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, and Jemima Puddle-Duck. Coin hunters are advised to keep an eye out for these special designs.
