Mr Abba soared to fame by posting about his wealthy lifestyle on Instagram.

Hushpuppi, an Instagram influencer from Nigeria has been sentenced to more than eleven years in prison in the USA for his role in an international fraud syndicate.

Hushpuppi, whose real name is Ramon Abba, was ordered to pay $1,732,841 (c.£1.52m) in restitution to two victims.

Mr Abba soared to fame by posting about his wealthy lifestyle on the social media site, accumulating 2.8 million followers, BBC News reports.



The influencer was accused of conducting business email compromise scams, online bank heists and other cyber-enabled fraud that financially impacted many victims and allegedly, provided assistance to the North Korean regime.

Mr Abbas apologised for his crimes to Judge Otis D Wright in a handwritten note, saying he would use his personal funds to pay back his victims. He also said he had only made $300,000 from the crime he was being tried for.
