And finally... knock on wood

A unique six-wheeled car with a wooden body is set to be auctioned for up to £3,000.

The car is one of fewer than 400 made from a kit designed by William Towns in 1988 — but most of them are built from fibreglass.

This particular vehicle was made by John Brazier, a former Rolls Royce engineer who worked on Concorde and ultimately became a woodwork and metal teacher at Brislington Comprehensive.

“This Hustler was lovingly engineered and built over three summers in the mid-1980s and went on to serve as the main family vehicle for over thirteen years — taking the Brazier family the length and breadth of the country on various holidays,” East Bristol Auctions said.

The car has been in dry storage since the early 2000s, and though there have been no attempts to start it, the auctioneers believe it “likely only requires light commissioning to [be made] roadworthy once more”.

The auction will take place on 1 September in Bath.
