And finally… SP3-cial price

A unique, factory-produced Ferrari Daytona SP3 has sold for a record $26 million (c. £19m) at a charity auction during Monterey Car Week, with all proceeds benefiting the Ferrari Foundation.
The sale makes it the most expensive new Ferrari ever to sell at auction.
The car, officially numbered 599+1, was created as a single addition to the SP3’s original production run of 599 cars. Its final sale price places it as the 13th most expensive car ever sold at auction, narrowly missing the 12th spot held by a 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale, Road & Track reports.
The SP3 is the only brand-new car in the top echelon of auction sales, which is otherwise dominated by vintage classics.
The original 599 examples of the Daytona SP3, a modern tribute to Ferrari’s 1960s sports prototypes, were pre-sold to the marque’s most devoted clients for approximately $2.25 million each. The winner of this special auction paid more than ten times that amount for the privilege of owning the final car.
This ‘Tailor Made’ SP3 features a host of unique customisations. Its striking livery combines exposed carbon fibre with vibrant Giallo Modena yellow accents, including the Ferrari logotype down its centre. The interior features fabric made from recycled tyres, and the dashboard is crafted from the same carbon fibre used in the brand’s Formula 1 race cars.
Adding to its desirability is the likelihood that this will be the last mid-engine Ferrari to be sold with a naturally aspirated V12 engine, as the company transitions towards hybrid powertrains. A special plaque inside the car testifies to its unique status as the final, and most valuable, Daytona SP3.
