And finally… stone cold charm
A house built from a cave dwelling carved into sandstone over 500 years ago has been put up for auction.
Rock Cottage, located in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, dates back to 1511 and sits within sweeping landscaped grounds of some 2.5 acres, complete with panoramic views across rolling valleys and woodland, three ornamental ponds, two waterfalls, and a large fish pond stocked with carp and sturgeon, BBC reports.
The property has been a private family home for more than six decades, currently owned by Martin and Lorraine Kendall, who acquired it in 1963 from Mr Kendall’s grandfather.
Despite its unusual origins, the couple say life inside the cave feels entirely unremarkable. “It’s lovely and cosy, it’s lovely and warm, and in the summer time it’s lovely and cool,” said Mr Kendall, adding that he doesn’t “think there’s anywhere quite like it in the UK”.
Over the years, the Kendalls have maintained and improved the property, including restoration of its 18th-century frontage. The house goes to auction on 11 March. The minimum opening bid has been set at £525,000.
