And finally... wardrobe windfall

One woman’s wardrobe clear-out could prove far more lucrative than a trip to the charity shop, with a collection of luxury designer accessories expected to sell for up to £40,000 at auction.

Around 20 handbags, along with designer shoes, scarves, sunglasses and other fashion items, will go under the hammer this week after being consigned by a private collector from Beverley in East Yorkshire.

The sale, being held by York auctioneer David Duggleby, features pieces from luxury brands including Chanel, Gucci and Louis Vuitton, with auctioneers saying around 90% of the items have never been used.

Among the standout lots is a Chanel 19 medium flap bag, designed by the late Karl Lagerfeld in 2019, which is expected to achieve between £3,500 and £5,000, BBC News reports.

Two Louis Vuitton handbags are also tipped to sell for between £1,000 and £2,000 each.

Coralie Thomson, of David Duggleby, said: “It is an absolutely stunning luxury fashion auction. Ninety per cent of the items have never been worn because the vendor - who has an even bigger collection - simply never got round to them.”

She added: “It has been a brilliant auction to work on. It was wonderful to see the fantastic skill and artistry of some of the greatest fashion designers in the world. I’ve absolutely loved it.”
