And finally…charity ends with death for 85 per cent of Scots

Only 15 per cent of people in Scotland have included a charity in their Will, according to a new survey.

However, gifts from Wills across all charities total on average £2 billion each year, which is the equivalent to the amount raised at over 19 Comic Relief events.

Although this may seem a lot, the majority of annual income for charities comes from legacies each year, and therefore without it, many would have to cut crucial services.

Those Scots who do include a charity in their will plan to leave on average 29 per cent of their estate to charity.

When looking at what type of charity Scots donate to the most – animal related charities stood out as the clear winners.

Most stated they simply donate to charities which are “close to their hearts”.

In the UK as a whole, animal charities are gifted to the most often: 43 per cent of Will donations are left to animal charities. However, latest annual reports show that cancer related charities receive the most in terms of monetary value, suggesting they receive larger donations.
