The PDSA Dickin Medal for Gallantry is also known as the Victoria Cross for animals.

A medal awarded to a dog who completed 20 parachute descents in World War Two has been sold at auction for £140,000.

The medal is amongst other war memorabilia included in the lot which also featured photos, books and a collar.

Sold by medal auctioneer Noonans of Mayfair the sale broke the previous world record for a Dickin Medal which had been awarded to a pigeon for its gallantry during D-Day.
