Angus accountancy co-founder retires after 35 years

Steve Taylor, the co-founder of Murray Taylor Chartered Accountants, has officially retired after 35 years at the helm of the accountancy firm.

Originally from Dundee, the 65-year-old director helped grow the business from a modest team of five to a workforce of 35, specialising in corporate finance, restructuring, and management buyouts.

He leaves the Montrose-based firm, which also maintains an office in Arbroath, in the capable hands of his daughter Louise Sim, son-in-law Robert Sim, and fellow director Andrew Stirling.

Although Mr Taylor had always intended to retire at this age, a recent battle with cancer underscored the importance of making the most of his time. Now that his treatment is successfully completed, he looks forward to spending time with his wife, Lynn, who previously served as the firm’s finance manager. Their retirement plans include visiting their daughters and grandchildren in Shanghai and Canada, where Mr Taylor intends to go skiing in Whistler, The Courier reports.

Closer to home, the lifelong Dundee FC supporter plans to attend matches at Dens Park and will continue serving the local area as treasurer of the Montrose Community Trust. Reflecting on his career, Mr Taylor expressed particular pride in having trained many local school leavers. He noted that while he will miss his team and clients, he has full confidence in the new generation of directors to continue growing the business he built with retired co-founder Tom Murray.
