Arbuthnot backs APH acquisition with multi-million-pound facility

Arbuthnot Commercial Asset Based Lending (ACABL) has provided a multi-million-pound funding package to support Ignite Growth’s acquisition of Glasgow-based engineering firm APH Hydraulic Engineering.

The facility comprises a confidential invoice discounting arrangement and a cashflow loan, marking the third deal completed by ACABL for Ignite Growth.

Founded in 1964, APH Hydraulic Engineering designs and manufactures hydraulic cylinders and actuators for defence, subsea and industrial applications. Headquartered on the outskirts of Glasgow, the family-owned business supplies sectors including civil engineering, rail, nuclear and defence.

The funding will support the company’s transition to new ownership following the retirement of its previous owners, while providing additional capacity for future growth under Ignite Growth’s long-term investment strategy.

Andrew Leek, partner at Ignite Growth, said Arbuthnot had delivered “a well-designed facility in a flexible, swift, and smooth manner”, adding that APH would strengthen the firm’s portfolio of UK engineering businesses.

Joe Taviner, director of business development at ACABL, said the lender was “delighted” to complete a third transaction for Ignite Growth and continue supporting the expansion of its portfolio of specialist businesses.
