Artisanal Spirits on track for profit targets after SMWS America investment

Andrew Dane – CEO of Artisanal Spirits Company

The Artisanal Spirits Company, owner of The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS), Single Cask Nation, and J.G. Thomson, announced a positive trading update at its AGM.

The company has achieved double-digit revenue growth in the first four months of the year, leading to improved year-on-year profitability. This performance has more than offset a one-off £0.5 million investment in SMWS America.

Two key strategic initiatives are on track for the year. Firstly, the company completed its investment in the SMWS America business in January 2025, gaining full control of membership and marketing services. This has already resulted in an improved operating model and optimised cost base, with efforts underway to mitigate the impact of US import tariffs before the next shipments in the third quarter of 2025.

Secondly, a new private cask and luxury experience programme is set to launch in the coming months. This initiative will be spearheaded by James Mackay, who joined as commercial director in January 2025 from Diageo.

The company expressed confidence in delivering revenue and profit growth for the current year, citing its performance to date and progress on strategic priorities. Despite it being early in the financial year, The Artisanal Spirits Company remains on track to meet the full-year 2025 consensus EBITDA of £1.5m.
