Accountancy and business advisory firm BDO has announced the promotion of two new partners in Scotland.

A further 13 partners have been promoted across the rest of the UK, the highest number of partner promotions the firm has awarded. This follows the recruitment of an additional 25 new partners for BDO during the last year.

The promotions become effective on 1 July 2017.

James Paterson is promoted to partner in the firm’s tax practice and is head of the tax team in the Edinburgh office.

Mr Paterson trained with BDO and has over ten years of experience advising individuals and businesses on complex tax matters, particularly in the property, healthcare and hotel sectors.

Born in Scotland, he spent significant time based in BDO’s London office and relocated to Scotland in 2016.

Craig Martin, meanwhile, has been made a partner in the firm’s corporate finance team and leads the transaction services practice in Scotland. He has worked in corporate finance for over 15 years.

After spending the majority of his career in the firm’s Leeds office, he returned to Scotland in 2012 and is highly experienced in advising private and listed companies, private equity and lenders. The corporate finance team was recently awarded Corporate Finance Team of the Year at Business Insider’s Accountancy and Finance Awards 2017.

The appointments are reflective of the Scottish firm’s growth ambitions as well as those of the entrepreneurial, ambitious clients it advises. The promotions bring a breadth of expertise and knowledge that enhances the firm’s service offering in Scotland and will help to build on a number of recent successes.

Martin Gill, head of BDO in Scotland, said: “We are delighted to appoint James and Craig to the partnership in Scotland. Our new partners have an extensive range of expertise and bring significant experience of advising our clients across many sectors. Their promotions are well deserved.

“Our people are central to our commitment to delivering exceptional service to our clients. An essential part of our strategy is to develop, reward and promote our talent from within. Our clients want to work with commercial, like-minded people and I am confident that James and Craig will continue to thrive in their careers and drive our business forward.

“Our market position is strong and it is a very exciting time to be part of BDO in Scotland. As a firm, we are investing in growing our talent, technology and grasping the new opportunities presented by the fast pace of change in the Scottish market.”
