Tilney Smith & Williamson, the wealth management and professional services group, which is re-branding to Evelyn Partners this summer, has strengthened its presence in Scotland by welcoming Capital Risk Management’s 10-strong team to its Edinburgh office, as well as the owner of Capital Risk Management’s appointed representative firm, MP2 Financial.

Both businesses, which are currently based in Coates Crescent in Edinburgh, provide financial planning, retirement and investment planning services to individuals, families, businesses and trustees.

As part of the deal, directors Grant Walker and Willie Crockett, as well as eight staff, who will bring experience covering financial planning, paraplanning and administration, will move into Tilney Smith & Williamson’s office at Atria Two in Morrison Street, Edinburgh. John Mortimer of Edinburgh-based MP2 Financial Limited will also be joining Tilney Smith & Williamson as part of the move.

Paul Frame, regional managing partner for Scotland and Northern Ireland at Tilney Smith & Williamson, commented: “I am very pleased to welcome Capital Risk Management Limited and MP2 Financial to our Edinburgh office. As we prepare to re-brand to Evelyn Partners this summer, this move reinforces our ambition to continue growing our presence in the city while also providing clients with the reassurance that they will continue to receive high quality, personalised service from an experienced and professional team. Grant, Willie and the rest of the team at Capital Risk Management and John at MP2 Financial have worked hard to build great businesses over many years and I am delighted they are now joining us.”

Willie Crockett, director of Capital Risk Management, added: “We are proud of the business that we have built up in the last 9 years and last year we began to think carefully about the future. We have come to recognise the benefits of being part of a bigger group with significant resources. We were keen to find a partner with similar values to us and with a commitment to expertise in both financial planning and investment. Having researched the market and met with other companies, we were impressed by the professionalism and ethos of Tilney Smith & Williamson and putting their clients first and felt that they were a natural fit for our clients and staff moving forward.”

Grant Walker, director of Capital Risk Management, commented: “Willie and I have given much thought in recent years to the long-term future of the business. From the outset, the team at Capital Risk Management has been committed to providing the highest level of expertise and service to all our clients so the bar was high in choosing a long-term home for our clients and colleagues.

“Tilney Smith & Williamson impressed us with their culture and the advantages they can offer our clients from being part of a larger organisation, while allowing us to remain focused on supporting our clients with highly personalised financial advice. We look forward to our future as part of the Tilney Smith & Williamson team in Edinburgh.”

John Mortimer, director of MP2 Financial, said: “I am delighted to be joining Tilney Smith & Williamson and look forward to working with them over the next two years. This move will provide my clients with security in the knowledge that they will benefit from the resources of a national wealth management firm but at a local level as Tilney Smith & Williamson continue to expand throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK.”
