Danish firm chooses Montrose for UK renewables production hub

Y-MatTec CEO Elo Yde and Port of Motrose CEO Tom Hutchison
Danish materials technology firm Y-MatTec A/S has announced the Port of Montrose as its preferred location for a new UK production facility.
The facility will produce DNV type-approved structural grouts, a specialist material essential for the foundations of offshore wind turbines. By establishing a UK manufacturing base, Y-MatTec aims to strengthen the domestic offshore wind supply chain, providing shorter delivery times, greater cost-efficiency, and reduced shelf-life risks for critical installation projects. The move has been supported by Scottish Development International (SDI), which was instrumental in facilitating the investment.
This decision marks another significant win for the Angus port and its role as a critical hub for the renewable energy sector. It is already home to the operations and maintenance bases for the Inch Cape and Seagreen offshore wind farms.
Tom Hutchison, CEO, Montrose Port Authority, said: “Montrose Port Authority has a proud history of supporting the energy sector. Being selected as Y-MatTec’s preferred location underlines our growing role in the offshore wind supply chain and our commitment to enabling the UK’s energy transition.”
While the exact number of jobs and the scale of the investment have not yet been disclosed, the project is expected to progress swiftly. Thanks to the port’s permitted development rights, no planning consent is required for the new factory.
Elo Yde, CEO of Y-MatTec, said: “Announcing Port of Montrose as our preferred location reflects our strong intent to support the UK’s offshore wind sector with high-performance materials. Localising production in Scotland will offer real benefits in terms of cost, quality, and logistics.”
