The society, which says that Scotland is its strongest area of lending also saw a double-digit increase in mortgage lending.

Ecology Building Society’s profit after tax stood at £1.1 million last year, marking an increase from the £1m recorded in 2018. The lender’s results made it “one of the most profitable building societies in the UK” based on a percentage of mean assets.

The lender has also said that over a fifth of its mortgages were in Scotland. Last year, Ecology Building Society lent an estimated £44m for sustainable properties and projects, The Scotsman reports.

The lender offers savings accounts that fund mortgages for properties and projects supporting people and communities to adopt green building practices, improve the energy efficiency of the UK’s housing stock and to live or work “in a way that promotes a sustainable economy.”
