EQ Accountants have become the seventh and latest firm to join Sumer, a rapidly expanding business services platform delivering professional support to SMEs across the UK.

EQ Accountants are a Scottish practice with over 140 staff and 16 partners, based in three offices in Tayside and Fife – Dundee, Forfar and Glenrothes.

They work predominantly with owner managed businesses, providing essential accounting, taxation, and business advisory services to clients across sectors including agriculture, property, leisure, healthcare, manufacturing, engineering, and technology.

EQ is the seventh firm to announce a tie-up with Sumer in just over a month as the pace of growth for the group accelerates into 2024. They join existing members Monahans, RMT Accountants, R.T. Marke, Jerroms, Carpenter Box and Simmons Gainsford. This latest partnership not only takes Sumer into the Scottish market, it also brings the group to over 900 champions supporting thousands of clients across the UK.

Sumer’s ambition is to bring together the best in business services. We combine the best regional practices with the tech, scale and breadth of expertise that only a national organisation can muster. We are on a journey to become the UK and Ireland’s foremost champion of small and medium-sized businesses.

Craig Nicol, chief executive officer at EQ Accountants, said: “This is a time of significant opportunity for the accountancy profession, and we are excited to join the Sumer Group which realises our ambitions to continue to be a progressive, successful, and growing firm.

“We are committed to creating an inclusive culture for our people with a continued deep respect for our clients and dedication to first-class service. We partnered with Warren and his team because it is very clear that our values are aligned.

“This is a pivotal moment for us and being part of the Sumer Group will enable us to deliver our growth ambitions and create new innovative opportunities for our clients, our people and our firm.”

Warren Mead, CEO of Sumer, added: “We’re delighted to have started 2024 with such a positive announcement and that is our partnership with the team at EQ.

“It was essential that Sumer build a footprint in Scotland. The fact that we have been able to achieve this with such a strong, client centred business in EQ is incredible.”
