Finance boss admits £65,000 theft

The financial boss of a South Ayrshire company has admitted to embezzling nearly £65,000 from the firm over a period spanning more than 15 years.

Kirsteen Crawford, 31, made multiple transfers from Tower Tools & Equipment’s account, over which she had control, to her own personal account.

Managing director David Fisher told the local Daily Record newspaper that Crawford’s crime was uncovered after she moved £1,200 cash from the firm’s account to her own while on holiday in Arran last July.

She took her laptop camping to the island and used a small security device to access the business’s bank account.

Another staff member alerted Mr Fisher to the illicit transaction and an investigation was launched.

Once the extent of Crawford’s fraud became clear - she had taken a total of £64,910 since 2011 - Mr Fisher fired her and alerted police.

She had worked for the firm based in the village of Dundonald for 13 years and was highly trusted.

Crawford, of Balgray Avenue, Kilmarnock, admitted embezzling the money at the company’s premises between April 1, 2011 and August 31, 2016.
