Finance director John Mooney celebrates retirement from Clark Contracts
John Mooney has retired from his role as finance director after 30 years with Clark Contracts.
Having played a significant part in shaping the culture, values and people‑focused approach that define the business today, John will continue to support the company as a non‑executive director.
John began his career training as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young between 1985 and 1989, before spending six years with a general contractor. He joined Clark Contracts in 1995 as financial controller and was appointed finance director in 2001.
Throughout his career, John has played a pivotal role in the company’s growth and development. He has been instrumental in leading the Steering Group, which champions the company’s Customers 1st initiative, established almost 25 years ago, as well as corporate social responsibility activities, and continuous improvement across all departments and divisions.
Under his guidance, the group has raised more than £50,000 for company-nominated charities and made significant contributions toward enhancing employee benefits and overall satisfaction.
Reflecting on his career, John said: “During my time with the company, I have witnessed our remarkable growth, from a turnover of £2 million in 1995 to over £130 million in 2025. It has been incredibly rewarding to support the development of our people, with many of our employees progressing through our academy to take on leadership roles.
“As I look forward to my retirement, I am excited to see the continued success of the business in the years ahead. Since the beginning of the year, I have had the pleasure of working alongside my replacement as finance director Mark McPeake. There is no doubt in my mind that in handing over the reins to Mark, the company will benefit from his wealth of experience and will continue to prosper under his financial guidance.”
Gordon Cunningham, managing director, said: “John has been a key part of Clark Contracts’ journey over the past 30 years, covering many different functions in addition to finance at various stages in the growing business, continually going the extra mile to enhance how we work and deliver.
“His leadership and dedication have helped shape the business and support the growth of so many of our people. While we wish John a very happy retirement, we are delighted that he will continue to support the business as a non‑executive director.”
