Former chartered accountant embezzled £6,000 from social club

Graham Clelland, a former chartered accountant who embezzled £6,000 from the Fairmuir Social Club, has said he is willing to repay the money.

Clelland was treasurer of the club when he embezzled the money from the Dundee-based club over a 16-month period.

He had pled guilty at Dundee Sheriff Court to a single charge of embezzlement totalling £6,000 between April 1 2022 and August 31 2023, The Courier reports.

Clelland said he was paying club bills but this was proven to be a lie. His solicitor Kyra Strachan said her client was prepared to pay the cash back.

She told the court: “It was a genuine mistake and he took steps to rectify this but he buried his head in the sand.”

Sentence was deferred to next month.
