Dundee-based EQ Accountants have announced that former Partner Keith Hopkins has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for his services to charity and the local community.

Mr Hopkins and his wife Mary have lived in the Angus town of Kirriemuir since moving north from Kent in the late 1970s, in order to open the very first Forfar office of EQ’s former practice, Reeves & Neylan.

Mr Hopkins retired from EQ following 35 years of service in March 2013.

EQ Chairman and Forfar Partner Iain Gordon congratulated him on what the firm called a “tremendous personal achievement”.

He said: “We are all thrilled that the efforts of Keith have been duly recognised. Keith applies himself to all walks of life with the same gusto and enthusiasm that my fellow Partners, staff and clients benefitted from during his working career, and over many years his efforts have helped raise significant funds for local Childrens’ and Cancer Charities amongst others, including the highly successful Relay for Life Kirriemuir. Keith thoroughly deserves this prestigious honour and we offer our warmest congratulations to Keith, Mary and their children Ross, Sally and Jenny.”
