Former Fife hotelier admits £380k in VAT evasion

A former Fife hotelier has pleaded guilty to evading £380,000 in VAT over a five-year period.

Lesley Dykes, 66, appeared before Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court this week and pleaded guilty to an amended charge concerning her involvement in tax evasion totalling £380,000, The Courier reports.

The alleged offences took place between August 2011 and July 2016 and concern The Crusoe Hotel in Lower Largo, Dunnikier House Hotel in Kirkcaldy and another property in Markinch.

Mrs Dykes operated the properties with her husband, Andrew Dykes, who continues to deny wrongdoing.

The case was adjourned for five weeks to allow prosecutors to consider whether how to move forward on Mr Dykes’ prosecution following Mrs Dykes’ plea.
