Former RBS Glasgow HQ reopens following refurb

Whiteburn and London & Scottish Investments (LSI) have announced that IWG, who also own Regus, will open its second Glasgow Spaces co-working centre in July at 100 West George Street, representing the first in City’s Central Business District.

Formerly RBS’ Glasgow HQ, 100 West George Street comprises 19,696 sq. ft., across 6 floors offering high ceilings, natural light and new ventilation, with modern glass door and window fittings creating a contemporary, crisp environment.

The building was built in late 1980s in the post-modern style, with a stone-clad bay window frontage and concrete frame and waffle slab construction. Ideally located in the vibrant heart of the City, it is just minutes from George Square and the Merchant City shopping district with access to Buchanan Bus Station, the Subway, Queen Street Railway Station and Glasgow Central.

John Shepherd of Whiteburn said: “We are delighted to bring Spaces’ second development to the City; and the first in the Central Business District. It will open in July across all four floors, in our contemporary refurbished office space at 100 West George Street. We look forward to seeing it fully occupied by the next generation of successful Glasgow entrepreneurs. We have been impressed by the standard of fitout and quality of workspaces and shared facilities that we have seen elsewhere. It looks sharp and modern, and clearly it’s encouraging collaboration between new and expanding businesses.”

Richard Morris, UK CEO of Spaces, said: “Spaces is part of a global movement driving demand for flexible workspace. Research shows that 53 per cent of professionals globally now work remotely for at least half their working week and 30 per cent of corporate real estate portfolios could be flexible workspace by 2030.

“People are recognising that they are far more productive and successful in a dynamic working environment, while businesses are waking up to the financial and strategic benefits. Spaces is helping to supply this demand and drive a workspace revolution in Britain.

“We are excited to provide a flexible and creative working environment with socialising and networking at its core, in the heart of the dynamic city of Glasgow. This new Spaces centre will give members an environment in which they can create and share ideas - and build partnerships through a programme of business and leisure events.”

100 West George Street is ideally located for members to access the City’s green spaces, restaurants and bars and infuse their workday with creative energy with a trip to the nearby Gallery of Modern Art, or be reminded of the importance of discipline in their work with a trip to the Glasgow Police Museum.

Whiteburn and L&SI carried out a complete DDA compliant landlord refurbishment with renewed services, in preparation for letting to Spaces for their own fitout, as well as creating a separately accessed restaurant unit. Whiteburn & L&SI are currently in discussions with a number of operators for a newly fitted out restaurant unit on the ground floor.

Agents JLL, Phil Reid Associates and Knight Frank advised Whiteburn and L&SI on the letting to Spaces.
