Brian Milne and Linda Barr of Scottish accountancy firm French Duncan have been appointed as joint administrators of Dounreay Tri Floating Wind Demonstration Project, the firm behind the 10MW Dounreay Tri floating offshore wind demonstration project in northern Scotland.

Swedish foundation designer Hexicon, a shareholder in the scheme, blamed the administration of project company Dounreay Tri on a lack of funding.

The project, which is intended to be deployed off the Caithness coast, is a consented multi-turbine offshore wind floating platform, comprising a semi-submersible rig with 2x 5MW turbines.

It needs “further capital to be completed”, Hexicon said.

Work has been suspended as that funding is sought by Edinburgh Sheriff Court-appointed French Duncan through a sale of Dounreay Tri’s interest.

Hexicon added that it hopes a sale will allow the project, which must be built by end-October 2018 to qualify for Scotland’s 3.5 Renewables Obligation certificate scheme for floating wind, “to complete construction in an orderly manner”.

Global Energy’s Nigg yard holds contracts for the majority of fabrication and final assembly.
