General & Technical Flooring Services undergoes management buyout

Specialist flooring solutions provider General & Technical Flooring Services Limited has undergone a management buyout.

The new owners are three long-standing members of the senior team: managing director John Morrison, regional director for Livingston John Dunn, and operations director Stuart Hale. Together they bring decades of experience and a shared vision for the business’s future.

The buyout marks the company’s transition to independence, following a successful period under the partial ownership of workplace design and build specialist Space Solutions Limited. Since acquiring a 70% stake in 2014, Space Solutions has supported a period of sustained growth and development within the business.

Mr Morrison said: “We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved over eleven years with Space Solutions. Building on the foundations set by Scott Milne and Eddie Riddle in 1994, we’ve grown a trusted, relationship-driven business known for quality service.

“Space Solutions’ support was key in shaping General & Technical Flooring Services, including our 2016 expansion into Scotland’s central belt. Now, we’re excited to take the next step as an independent business, focused on delivering exceptional service to our clients.”

Steve Judge, managing director of Space Solutions, said: “In 2014, we acquired a majority share in General & Technical Flooring Services, recognising an opportunity to develop the business.

“Over the last eleven years, we have achieved significant growth and expansion, both geographically and into new sectors. At the start, the expectation was that John and his team would take control of the business, and I am delighted that today this happens, and wish them every success in continuing to build the business in the years ahead.”

While the ownership structure is changing, the team emphasised that the strong working relationship with Space Solutions will continue.

Stuart Hale added: “Our partnership with Space Solutions has always been collaborative and productive - and we look forward to continuing that on future projects.”

The company, which works across multiple sectors including commercial, healthcare, education and hospitality, is now focused on expanding its operations, particularly across Scotland’s central belt. This year alone, General & Technical Flooring Services has already secured a number of new clients, underlining strong demand and confidence in its specialist expertise.

The move brings increased autonomy and flexibility, enabling more agile decision-making and deeper collaboration with contractors and industry partners.

Mr Dunn added: “This is an exciting time for our business, we see significant opportunities to grow, innovate and strengthen our presence across the region – and we’re ready to take General & Technical Flooring Services to the next level.”
