Greenshoots: Bitwise opens new office in Dundee

Software company Bitwise has opened a new office in Dundee’s Technology Park.

Formed in 1987 by its current managing director Craig McWhirter, the company develops high quality real-time, safety-critical software to international and industry standards.

Bitwise has successfully deployed more than 1000 projects for many blue-chip clients, across sectors including medical, defence, automotive, and fintech.

The company’s software can be found in products ranging from relatively simple card payment terminals, to complex, high integrity radiotherapy and security systems.

Bitwise has grown organically and currently employs 63 highly skilled consultants and engineers, most of whom are based at the firm’s Dunfermline HQ. Plans are in place to expand that number to 100 by 2025.

Craig McWhirter said: “We are excited to have recently opened a new development office at Dundee Technology Park.

“Dundee was an obvious choice for us, with access to a lot of local talent from the city’s universities and college. Around 20 software engineering posts will be created in Dundee of various skills and experience levels.”
