Tesco Bank’s move to consolidate its operations in Edinburgh at its South Gyle headquarters has seen almost 48,000 square feet of office space hit the capital’s market.

Property experts said the vacancy at Haymarket was great news for the office market, which is at a historic point of low supply with few developments in the pipeline.

The move means the Aviva-owned office at 22 Haymarket Yards will go on the market next month.

The office has been home to 700 Tesco Bank staff since 2009 but the challenger bank announced in August last year that it was to end its presence in the city centre.

All 600 staff previously based at Haymarket Yards will move to the Gyle, where Tesco Bank already has around 1,300 staff.
