Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has appointed a new director of business and sector development.

Originally from County Durham, David Oxley joined the organisation in 2004 as head of operations in Lochaber before moving to Forres with his wife and son in 2011 to take up the role of area manager in Moray.

Before joining HIE Mr Oxley worked as an accountant in the private sector, primarily in brewing. For the past year he has been acting director, filling in for Charlotte Wright before she was appointed chief executive.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Oxley said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed the past year as acting director and delighted to take up the role on a permanent basis. Going forward my attention remains firmly on supporting businesses and sectors to grow through innovation and internationalisation, and ensuring that this growth is spread across the region.

“I am a great believer in strong collaboration with partners as the best way to deliver more for the region, and continue to make the Highlands and Islands a great place to live, work, study and invest.”

Charlotte Wright, HIE chief executive, added: “I am delighted to welcome David as a permanent member of our leadership team. His experience, both with HIE and prior to joining the organisation, will continue to be a great asset to us as we face the challenges ahead.”
