Inverness-based telecoms firm HighNet is aiming to grow its annual turnover to £20 million after announcing its acquisition by West Sussex-based Focus Group.

Focus Group has made a significant investment in the company to support its ambitious plans for growth. The financial investment and operational merger of the two companies will serve to extend geographical reach, product portfolio and service expertise for both brands.

HighNet, which is an established family-run business based in Inverness and Glasgow, will continue to operate under its brand name, with current managing director David J Siegel leading the existing management team and employees.

The investment opportunity was instigated by current chairman David M Siegel, who founded the successful business in 1994 but will continue with his plans for retirement later this month.

Focus Group, is one of the UK’s fastest-growing business communications and technology solutions providers - a £120m business with locations across the UK and over 550 experts providing innovative business solutions for in the region of 25,000 customers.

David Siegel, MD of HighNet, said: “We have been seeking an investor for a while but it was really important we found a pairing that allowed us to do what we do best. We also wanted a culture that was a great fit for ours and to benefit from all that comes with a larger business; most of all, the industry expertise and financial investment required to transition to a £20m turnover company.

“There ended up being only one pairing that ticked all the boxes and I’m excited the next phase of our journey sees us joining forces with Focus Group. We can now start to concentrate our minds on how we drive growth and success in the future.”

Mr Siegel added: “I’d like to take a moment to thank my father for all the guidance he’s given me over the 36 years that we have worked together. I am fortunate to have been taught a truckload of business ethics that I have subsequently tried to pass on to everyone else as we built our wee empire together. While we have the sad news that we are a man down, it’s counteracted with excitement of being able to truly unleash the potential we have been storing up for years.”

Ralph Gilbert, co-founder of Focus Groups, said: “The investment in HighNet is a great achievement for Focus Group and I’m delighted to welcome them on board. There is a perfect fit between the two companies that will create great collaborations and opportunities for further growth in Scotland.

“HighNet have a strong core network of internet services, together with proven channel partner expertise, which will provide Focus Group with the ability to advance further in this field.

“Both companies are expanding exponentially and working closely together will speed up our growth plans.”
