Interpath appointed joint administrators of BGL Contracts Limited

Glasgow-based electrical contractor BGL Contracts Limited has entered administration, resulting in the loss of all 40 jobs after facing mounting financial pressures.
The firm, which has operated for almost 20 years, appointed Interpath managing directors Alistair McAlinden and Geoff Jacobs as joint administrators.
The company specialised in electrical fit-out work for clients across sectors including leisure and hospitality, automotive and retail.
According to the administrators, BGL had been trading in a highly competitive market and had struggled in recent months with rising operating costs, tight contract margins and delays to several major projects.
Despite efforts by the directors to secure new investment, the business was unable to meet its financial commitments and ceased trading immediately after entering administration.
Mr McAlinden said firms operating in the electrical subcontracting sector are under increasing pressure from higher costs and demanding contract terms, leaving many exposed to financial distress.
He said these challenges ultimately proved too great for BGL to overcome and that the administrators’ immediate focus would be helping former employees access support through the Redundancy Payments Service.
The latest figures from the Insolvency Service show there were 100 company insolvencies in Scotland during May, down 25% compared with the same month a year earlier. Those included 51 creditors’ voluntary liquidations, 40 compulsory liquidations, seven administrations and two company voluntary arrangements.
