Helge Skibeli will retire in February 2028
Helge Skibeli has announced plans to retire from J.P. Morgan Asset Management in February 2028 following almost four decades in the industry.
Mr Skibeli is one of the three portfolio managers responsible for the JPMorgan Global Growth & Income fund (JGGI). He joined JPMorgan in 1990, where he worked as the global head of developed market equity research. Before that he was head of research for the US based in New York, which followed being head of Asia ex Japan research, based in Singapore.
Prior to that he was a research analyst for European autos and basic industries. In 2017, he was appointed chief investment officer of the firm’s International Equities Research Driven Team.
Mr Skibeli obtained an MA in General Business from the Norwegian School of Management and earned an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a CFA charterholder.
Mr Skibeli played a significant role behind the merger of the Scottish Investment Trust (SIT), which merged with JPMorgan Global Growth & Income to create a £1.2bn listed fund.
The board at SIT was impressed by the investment strategy of Mr Skibeli, Rajesh Tanna and Tim Woodhouse in 2021 when it decided it was better value to merge the £700m trust with an external investment group. The deal was completed in 2022.
JGGI went on to merge with JPMorgan Elect in 2022, and with JP Morgan Multi-Asset Growth and Income in 2024, which has grown its net assets from £723m to more than £2.5bn.
The board confirmed he will continue in his role as a portfolio manager of the company until his retirement in 18 months’ time. At that time, his responsibilities will be transitioned to the company’s existing portfolio managers, Sam Witherow and James Cook, who joined the company following the merger.
The board said in a statement: “The board thanks Helge for his stewardship of the company’s portfolio during the past seven years and looks forward to working with him through the planned transition.
“The board remains confident that the company’s portfolio managers, supported by the J.P. Morgan Asset Management team will continue to diligently implement the company’s investment strategy in accordance with its investment objective.”
