KPMG is targeting growth in its enterprise team in Scotland with two director appointments.

Craig Cavin has been appointed head of enterprise consulting at KPMG in Scotland and Ross Marshall joins as a tax director.

Both Craig and Ross will be based in Glasgow and their recruitment marks a significant expansion of KPMG’s Enterprise team in Scotland, which was launched in October 2014 to support the growth of privately-owned businesses.

During his 13 years in London and overseas, Craig Cavin held senior operational and financial roles as chief executive and chief financial officer with a number of international organisations.

Prior to joining KPMG, he worked as a senior director in the private equity performance improvement team at global professional services firm Alvarez and Marsal.

Working closely with management teams, he led the implementation of financial and operational transformation programmes for private equity owned businesses across a wide range of sectors.

As Head of Enterprise Consulting in Scotland, Mr Cavin will focus on helping Scottish companies identify and implement sustainable profitability, working capital and operational process improvements.

Ross Marshall was previously director in the corporate tax team at BDO after spending nine years at PwC in their private business team.

KPMG said that during his career he has gained “in-depth knowledge of the Scottish marketplace and experience of working with international clients on their cross-border transactions; advising UK and international businesses on MBOs, group reorganisations, tax and employee share schemes, R&D and intellectual property structuring”.

As tax director, Mr Marshall will specialise in advising entrepreneurs and their businesses on a range of tax matters including restructuring work, corporation acquisitions and disposals, right through to general corporate and personal tax advice.

He said: “My role at KPMG Scotland is about helping businesses to deliver results. I will be using my extensive experience in operational roles, coupled with my consulting background, to implement accelerated improvements to profitability and cash flow for our Enterprise clients.

“KPMG Enterprise is one of the firm’s strategic growth areas and I’m delighted to be joining the team at this time. Scotland has a wealth of emergent mid-market businesses and my key role will be to support those businesses in all manner of tax issues as they continue to expand and contribute to the economy.”

Phil Charles, head of enterprise in Scotland and senior partner for KPMG’s Glasgow office, said: “We welcome Craig and Ross to the Enterprise team in Scotland. Each has enjoyed highly successful careers during which they have gained experience across a range of industry sectors and worked with both domestic and international clients.

“Their combined knowledge will provide invaluable insight and advice for clients and we’re confident we have the right people in place to continue driving our business forward.”

KPMG Enterprise was established to support mid-market businesses and help them to achieve their growth aspirations. It sits alongside KPMG’s Small Business Accounting service which combines digital technology with KPMG’s expertise to provide select online accounting, bookkeeping and tax services.
