Morton Fraser has appointed banking law specialist Kirsty McBirnie as legal director in its banking and finance group.

Ms McBirnie has over 15 years of experience in the sector, having previously advised clients at Pinsent Masons and Brodies. She is the third legal director to be appointed by Morton Fraser in the last 12 months.

She is dual-qualified in English and Scots law and in her new role will focus on her areas of expertise which include banking and asset finance, property finance and restructuring work.

Her appointment takes the number of lawyers in Morton Fraser’s banking and finance group to 16.

Iain Young, head of corporate sector and London and regional referrals group at Morton Fraser, said: “We are thrilled to have someone with Kirsty’s expertise and experience join our growing team. Her appointment significantly strengthens our Banking & Finance Group offering, not only for Scottish businesses but also with our cross-divisional referral work from London-based law firms.

“Our lawyers are straight-talking and commercially-minded, and Kirsty fits the bill in terms of being able to help us to continue to provide clear and specialist advice to clients.”

Ms McBirnie added: “The banking and finance team at Morton Fraser has a reputation for offering transparent and expert advice and it’s that calibre of work, along with its demonstrated growth and impressive client base, which drew me to the firm and the role. The flexible working practices and friendly atmosphere were added incentives to join the team.”
