The CBI has appointed Tracy Black as its new deputy director in Scotland.

Ms Black joins the CBI Scotland team with immediate effect on a part-time basis until September, when she will take up the post full-time based in the Glasgow office.

She will take over from current CBI Scotland Director, Hugh Aitken, when he steps down from the role - as previously announced - in April 2018.

Born and raised in Scotland, Ms Black has enjoyed a distinguished, varied business career both in the UK and overseas with time spent in senior roles at global financial giants such as Goldman Sachs and UBS, as well as smaller business consultancy and entrepreneurial start-ups.

She said: “I am delighted to join the CBI Scotland team at a time when there are big issues at hand for the future success of our economy.

“Scotland has a rich mix of top-class firms of all sizes and I intend to make sure that our strong business voice is heard in the corridors of both Holyrood and Westminster.”

Hugh Aitken, CBI Scotland Director, said: “It’s great to have Tracy on board as her skills and experience mark her out as an exceptional appointment. I will be stepping down in April 2018 so getting Tracy in at this stage will help ensure a seamless transition.

“My own focus remains on continual improvement of CBI Scotland’s offering to businesses, while working closely with the Scottish Government and Parliament.”

Henrietta Jowitt, CBI Deputy Director-General, Commercial, said: “Tracy’s experience will be invaluable as the CBI prepares to tackle the economic and political challenges facing businesses across Scotland, with Article 50 now triggered and the prospect of a second referendum on Scotland’s future. She is well-placed to best represent and support our members.”
