RBS and NatWest websites suffer IT failure

Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and NatWest are suffering their second IT outage in one week, with online services failing early Tuesday morning.

The outage prevented customers from opening online banking services from the banks’ home pages. This has followed the previous glitch where credit card customers could not access their accounts to pay off outstanding balances.

RBS and it’s sister company, NatWest, suffered the latest glitch because of a hardware issue at IT provider Tsy.

The glitch has also affected customers of Nationwide Building Society and Tesco Bank.

The new outage at RBS first emerged at 9am Tuesday morning and was subsequently resolved at around 4pm that day.

However, Natwest’s website continues to be unavailable as of this morning. The bank posted on Twitter that it is “working hard getting it back up and running for you. Online Banking and our mobile app are still working. Sorry if this is causing you problems - we’ll post an update when we have more information”.
