Scottish Building Society wins SFE Judges’ Award
Scottish Building Society has been recognised at the 2025 Scottish Financial Enterprise (SFE) Awards, winning the prestigious Judges’ Award.
The world’s oldest remaining building society received the award at a ceremony held at Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC).
Acknowledged for its impressive year-on-year growth and 175-year heritage, the Society was recognised by SFE for its continued commitment to supporting the communities it serves.
This marks the first time a building society has ever received the Judges’ Award, underscoring a remarkable period of progress and transformation for the organisation.
Paul Denton, chief executive at Scottish Building Society said: “This is a highly respected award and as the first building society to ever win this category it holds an even more special honour for us.
“Scottish Building Society has gone from strength to strength in the last five years, reflecting the growing influence and impact that building societies across the country are making.
“I would like to thank our incredible team for their dedication and hard work. This award is a reflection of their passion, professionalism and the collective effort they bring every day.”
Scottish Building Society has achieved remarkable progress in recent years, delivering the strongest organic growth of any building society in the UK. Since 2020, the society has doubled total assets, increased retail savings by almost 90%, and grown mortgage assets by over 70%, all whilst maintaining a steadfast focus on fairness, service, and community.
Sandy Begbie CBE, chief executive at Scottish Financial Enterprise, said: “As with every year the standard of entries has been exceptionally high and has showcased just how important the financial and professional services sector is to Scotland.
“As the oldest remaining building society in the world, Scottish Building Society has a long track record of consistently supporting customers and communities across Scotland. That rich heritage, combined with impressive recent growth, made Scottish Building Society a deserving winner of this year’s judges’ award.”
